Lecturing Bird - Figurative Sculpture
Explore the inspiration and process behind this piece.
Lecturing Bird was completed in February 2013 and is built from adding machines, typewriter parts, airplane wire, computer parts, and copy machine components — all instruments of communication, record-keeping, and transmission. The sculpture captures a bird in full animated oratory: mid-discussion, confident, leaning into whatever point it's making with its whole body. The airplane wire gives it the structural tension to hold that posture across six feet three inches of height, the whole form taut with the energy of something being said.

Lecturing Bird embodies movement and personality through the transformation of found materials into expressive form.
